We recently took a mini trip to Las Vegas. Ideally this would be a trip to hang out at the casinos right? Well not exactly. I actually wanted to go to Seven Magic Mountains. An art installation in the middle of the Henderson, NV desert. It’s about 20 mins from Las Vegas. After finding interest, I read that it would be dismantled in 2018. So we said LETS GO! 🙂
You can’t miss these bright rock formations when you drive by. Even if you hadn’t heard about it, I am pretty sure anyone would still want to pull over to see what it was all about. People from all over the place have traveled to check it out.
Created by Swiss Artist Ugo Rondinone the 30-35 foot high boulders turned into colorful “day glow totems.”
Rondinone gives a brief explanation of the project, “Seven Magic Mountains elicits continuities and solidarities between human and nature artificial and natural, then and now. What centers this amalgam of contradictions is the spiritual aspirations , one that bruises, elevates and transcends.”
I have become a serious Color Enthusiast so seeing these amazing colors in person made my heart go pitter patter 🙂 Baby Boy loved it too! The Color King named the bright hues all the way to the top!
If you are anything like me then you are wondering how they got these “totems” stacked on top of each other. Here is an insight PDF on the Seven Magic Mountains website. It shares a bit of the engineering that took place in order to get the vision complete.
So if you are interested in checking out Seven Magic Mountains. Go soon 🙂 The installation has been up for about 2 years and will be dismantled in May of 2018.
Another amazing trip in the books! On to our next adventure 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
